Ms Kay Clayton and Mrs Julia Hewgill link together Biggin's Governing Body, St Thomas' Church and Biggin CE Primary School. They are very active in all three of their 'posts' and we are fortunate to have such caring and worthwhile members.
The church of St Thomas is in the village of Biggin and is our 'Mother' church. The school holds particular services for Christingle, Harvest and general services one Friday morning of each month to which members of the community are always invited.
Our two Foundation governors belong to St Thomas' and one is a church warden here. Staff, pupils and their family members attend services, they are involved in special services throughout the year, providing decorations for the harvest service and flower festival. Staff and pupils join in services at Christmas, Mothers Day and Easter, playing the organ and providing a choir and readers. It is safe to say that we cherish our link with St Thomas.
Please see the 'News and Views' for service times as these alter throughout the calendar, you may click here for an online version or collect a copy from the shop in Hartington.
As a good proportion of our pupils are from the surrounding area, we have close links with St Michael & All Angels in Alsop-en-le-Dale. Members of staff, governors and relations of our pupils regularly attend services, decorate the church, work as PCC secretary and help considerably with fundraising: Bank Holiday Monday's 'tea & cake' has become a fixture in many diaries! Pupils regularly attend the Christmas and Easter services and occasional Sunday services.
Services are held here at 11:15 each Sunday apart from the first Sunday of the month.
Wider links: a proportion of our staff and pupils are of the Catholic faith and links have been forged with St Anne's in Buxton, All Saints in Ashbourne and St Mary's in Derby.
Members of staff have been Methodist church organists and Sunday School teachers.
Our Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) took place on Thursday 18th May 2017. We are pleased to say that the inspector David Wood judged the school 'Good', please click here to here the report.
