ART & DT
At Biggin Primary School, we believe that every child is creative and deserves the opportunity to explore, experiment and express themselves through Art and Design Technology. Our curriculum is designed to develop confidence, curiosity and resilience, while equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills to become thoughtful artists and designers.
Our Art curriculum is delivered using AccessArt, a nationally recognised programme that provides high-quality, flexible and inspiring learning experiences. AccessArt encourages children to explore all aspects of visual art through open-ended activities that promote creativity, imagination and individual expression. Working with artists, artist educators and teachers from a wide range of backgrounds, AccessArt offers rich opportunities for pupils to investigate materials, techniques and processes while developing an appreciation of artists, cultures and creative practices from around the world.
Through carefully sequenced lessons, children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, reflect on their work and refine their ideas. They learn that the artistic process is just as valuable as the finished outcome, developing resilience, independence and pride in their achievements along the way.
In Design and Technology, pupils engage in purposeful, hands-on learning that develops their ability to design, make and evaluate products for real-life contexts. They build practical skills and technical knowledge through projects involving structures, mechanisms, textiles, food and electrical systems, while learning to solve problems creatively and work collaboratively.
Across both subjects, our curriculum nurtures creativity, critical thinking and innovation, enabling every child to flourish as a confident learner and creative individual. We celebrate originality, encourage exploration and provide opportunities for all pupils to develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
