Meet our ECO Warrior Team

What have we done so far?
Food Waste🍈
The ECO Warriors have been very busy! This year the children have been on a mission to reduce our food waste here at school. They have tackled this by weighing our food waste each day from school lunches as well as our fruit snacks and feeding the information back to our cook in Hartington. The ECO Warriors were able to make changes alongside our school cook as to what was on the menu to help reduce our daily waste. They found that Wednesday's waste weighed the most and made a changes with swapping cabbage for another yummy vegetable.
The children have also been showing their findings on Purple Mash and displaying them on graphs to make it visual for the other children.

Team Meetings ☎️
We have been lucky to meet up with children from another school to share ideas- One ECO Team to another!

EARTH DAY/ THE BIG PLASTIC COUNT🌍
The ECO Warriors encouraged children and parents to take part in THE BIG PLASTIC COUNT week that took place in March to measure how much plastic waste was being created. Each household was then presented with their own individual household report to show them what happened to their waste as well as what they yearly plastic waste would look like based on their results. The ECO Warriors reported back to the rest of the school and highlighted the many problems this can use if we do not make changes.

WILDLIFE AREA🍀
With the children having helped achieve level 3 RHS Gardening Award, this has meant that we recieved vouchers to spend! This did not take the ECO Warriors long to decide what they would like to spend the vouchers on. They created a mind map of a wildlife area and what they would like to include, in particular a pond. The children gave the rationale that the current pond is not accessable and therefore they can not enjoy looking at the wildlife fully. Along with our Forest School Leader the ECO Warriors have been busy helping make our wildlife area, creating a deadhedge to attract more wildlife, leaving the grass unmowed, setting up a pond area as well as planting.
